Project 3

Environmental-Based Parks Help Conservation Efforts!

This project applied the research conducted in the duration of the project two paper and turned it into a series of visual elements to convey the research to a wider audience. In each of my projects, the focus was on how zoos and other environment-based parks ad in the promotion of conservation messages. The research conducted had to be altered to be applied in the new methods for the genres of delivery in project three; this created the campaign focus of environment parks, zoos, and aquariums contribute greatly to the sharing of conservation messages and are highly effective in aiding the success of conservation. The goal of the campaign was to make people realize what exactly these environment-based parks do to promote conservation in an increasingly urbanized world.

The three genres used in this project all allowed for ease of access across multiple platforms. This includes a Twitter account that focused on conservation in relation to zoo programs, a Wix website to provide facts on the topic to those that view the website, and an infographic to provide a simplified summary of the important facts. Each of the genres selected provides a unique method for sharing the research allowing for more people to experience the facts that reside in the relationship between conservation and environment-based parks. Given that the target audience are those that reside in urban city areas, these genres are perfect for reaching this population based on their ease of access for anyone willing to view them. When selecting the genres, consideration for a genre that can be quickly glanced at were also considered to satisfy the needs of those that do not possess the time to read over a large collection of research. The use of a Twitter account, a Wix page, and an infographic would have a great sense of appeal based on the capabilities of these genres; basically, there is possibility of personalization that cam e be used to pull more people in and elicit a better response to the genres. To create these genres Twitter, Wix, and Canva were used to make them the best that they could possibly be.

To successfully convey the research in a straightforward manner, and would appeal to others in the promotion state, the appeals of logos and ethos were primarily used in the genres. The use of these specific appeals insures that the information is being accepted as the fact that it needs to be.

The process of promotion was rather difficult for this project and its various components. Social media became the primary source of sharing the genres because it is the easiest way to attract a large audience of people given the diverse people that are present on these platforms; however, finding the proper audience for the assignment was difficult and getting them to follow the account back proved to be even more difficult. Given that one of the genres was a Twitter account, I primarily utilized Twitter as the source of sharing my genres; the other genres were posted on the account so that followers would have access to them. The hashtags were used on Twitter and they were carefully related back to the topics covered in each tweet. By applying numerous hashtags to each tweet that were centered on the topics, the likelihood of someone in my targeted audience seeing it is greatly increased. Initially, I believed that using hashtags would be enough to achieve a large audience but apparently the topic does not generate interest on a normal basis, so I had to resort to following over one thousand people that liked pictures related to the campaign topic. Given that Twitter was the only avenue of promotion, this genre received the most success in terms of gaining attention from people in the public.

I would consider the promotion to be a mild success given that not many people followed the genre account. If I had time to refocus my attention on further promoting the genres, I would target more forms of social media to be recognized by larger companies that are involved in the environment-based parks and conservation relationship; early on I was recognized by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and gained two followers from the interaction, but they were quickly lost. I have tried to promote these brands since the beginning of the project, but things started to progress when I began incorporating hashtags and followed people.

This composition process was much more enjoyable when compared to the composition process of composing the other projects. This project required more creativity since it was not a straight research project, but it was nice to not have to pull all new sources or conduct a thorough examination of the topic because the hard part was already complete. Typically, I have more success with writing and I struggle with the more creative aspects since I consider myself more analytical, so this project allowed me to step out of my comfort zone to embrace a new way of presenting ideas. A great deal of attention went into creating the genres for this project; unlike the other projects where it was all about how the ideas were presented through word, I had to consider the attractiveness and aesthetic aspects to attract people to view my genres.

One of the most challenging parts of project three when compared to project two was putting the research into a new format that other people would enjoy. Project two allowed for a more literal approach backed by scientific quotes and facts that did not need to be watered down. In project three the facts needed to be edited to be easier to understand and more interesting to the public, since not everyone finds straight scientific fact to be interesting; it became a complicated task to make these facts something someone would enjoy seeing.

If I was to go back in time before starting project three, there is a lot I would tell myself to make my life easier. The biggest tip would be to manage my time better than I did for this project since I started to rush the process towards the end of the assignment, which could have easily been avoided had I done what I was supposed to do in the beginning. I would also tell myself to take the time to enjoy the assignment more rather than take it in a literal sense.
